‪The Multifaith Centre for Spiritual Studies and Practice‬ by Nurulhuda Ahmad Faris

LOCATION:  University of Sydney, Australia

This Multifaith facility sited at the University of Sydney ground is designed for the university community and public. It acts as a support centre, perceived as a sanctuary and retreat for all. The crafted spaces are designed with the concept of ‘Light’ (spiritual and metaphysical) which emerged as a common theme to all faiths and became the central feature of the main hall.

This contemplative place for meditation and reflection accommodates a variety of spiritual and faith-based practices, and encourages interfaith dialogues and spiritual development as part of the learning experience for all students. As spiritual belief acts as an important part of one’s identity, this centre strives to illuminate faith and enrich the users’ life. Avoiding icons and symbolism, spaces are flexible enough to allow for changeable venues that can easily transform from one congregation to another. Specific religious accommodations are provided to suit particular needs of religious groups.
