PROJECT LOCATION: 410 King Street, Newcastle
Allambi house is a multis facility providing temporary housing, education, job training, and medical services for youth. The project explores architecture as the universal language of all the senses. The aim is to provide a space that facilitates troubled youths transition into society as an independent adult. This is explored through an architectural investigation into notions of belonging, mastery, independence and generosity.
These ideas are established through the concept that a ‘home’ is not limited to the scale of a house, but is rather a quality that lives in the intangible sense of comfort and belonging which results from meaningful construction of space that understands our body and psyche. The architecture is a response to the universal need for refuge and solace as well as engagement with peers and the community.
