The Elizabeth Street Initiative
Global natural resources are depleting at a rapid rate. Architecture is a huge contributor to this calamity. Could architecture take on a more resourceful role in helping reduce this catastrophe? Forum 73: The Elizabeth Street Initiative offers a conceivable solution to a damaged riverside site, currently in a process of remediation, inevitably destined to be destroyed again. Through an engagement with the community, the site and its natural elements, an alternative is offered for a community seeking both a meeting place and a cleaner system of energy production. These educational interventions aim to raise awareness of the importance of site and the environment. This scheme takes on this challenge to ask: Can architecture be a serious leader in the quest for a cleaner future?
