The scheme of the project is to embrace a sense of contemporary language in a traditional place of worship. The challenge is to disregard the essential principles of designing an orthodox Hindu temple and derive a modernized approach that connects the temple to the urban context. The roots of culture and tradition will be nurtured with the presence of architectural elements of a traditional temple, only to be reinterpreted through a contemporary outlook and materialized perspective.
The temple is to be built on a heritage listed site that previously housed the Newcastle East Public School. The intention is to revitalize the former school site without stripping off its significance and its historical attributes.
