Birostris – Floating Vertical Farm With Integrated Residential & Commercial Facilities, Singapore.
A growing population faced with very limited land for agriculture has resulted in only 7% locally produced food in Singapore. The carbon footprint caused by a heavy reliance on importing food contributes to the already oncoming global warming. Birostris is a floating anchored agricultural facility that also houses an experimental residential and commercial development.
With the need to feed the growing population, the project explores possible agricultural methods and responsive architecture that can work in sync to ensure maximum productivity and minimum consumption.
The project challenges the harsh surroundings and explores architectural features and strategy to provide a sustainable living and working environment. Factors such as protection from the elements, while at the same time providing and maintaining the standards of living plays a major role in the project.
