PROJECT LOCATION: Kuching City
Kutching Cultural Centre is located in the heart of Kuching City. The program consists of a cultural workshop, a restaurant, gallery, theatre and a library. It serves as a communal landmark that unites the public at a strategic location.
The concept is formed through site diagrams in relation to the existing facilities, the Sarawak Craft Council, the Post Office, the Old Court House, India Street, China Town and most importantly, it is adjacent to the Sarawak river. The ground floor plan itself is a diagram developed to explain the idea of a metaphor describing man-made structures that belongs to the community and that these community people are united and are one with nature. The idea is further explored through the use of local materials, durable timber, recycled timber, masonry and concrete.
