Lake Cowal Housing by Ankita Aranake

The project is a critique on the current conditions of mining activity in Australia. It reflects on the uncertainty and hardships faced by miners who have to work on a FIFO (Fly In, Fly Out) roster. The housing acts as a mediator between the reality of the situation where miners are living in isolated locations away from their family and friends and the time they have to spend when not working on site. Another feature of the project is the unique lake, which is ephemeral. The project focuses on how the housing reacts to the changing conditions of the lake over the period of the mines lifetime.
