PROJECT LOCATION: Lake Macquarie, Australia
The Lake Macquarie City Council Civic Mixed-Use Scheme located in Speers Point NSW Australia aims to provide sufficient accommodation for an expanding organisation structured to meet growing community needs. In developing a democratic, transparent, accessible civic centre the Lake Macquarie community is further encouraged to participate in the decision-making process of their local government.
This scheme proposes a new Council Administration and Community Chambers Building with the existing Council Administration Building to re-used, accommodating a City Library and local business. The primary public space surrounding the Chambers links to the City’s Premier Park with two secondary public spaces linking to existing heritage buildings opposite the site. The existing Heritage Masonic Hall is also to be re-used as a community facility.
