lo.ca.vore by Mei Qing Tan

lo.ca.vore is a proposal for an underused carriage shed at the edge of Foreshore Park in Newcastle City. The heart of this project is the development of a simple yet effective system that enhances the functionality and usability of the shed without depreciating its existence. The system encourages users to interact with the building, providing them with a sense of ownership while giving the shed a life of its own. The project also sees itself as a platform to promote the appreciation of local food, farming and businesses. It is to be many things – a farmers’ market, grocer, eatery and most of all, a place of gathering, learning and sharing. At the most fundamental level, lo.ca.vore is envisioned as a way to promote activity and interaction through the love of local produce and through the opportunity that is presented by the architecture, for such informal encounters.
