Centre for assisted suicide
This project responds to the increasing demands of an ageing population and growing speculation surrounding our right to die. With the possibility of physician-assisted suicide – voluntary euthanasia – becoming legalised in the near future, an alternative to the traditional hospital will be required as a place for these deaths to occur.
Architecturally the design aims to respond strongly to its landscape; harnessing the awe experienced with views of Sydney harbour — a vista framed by the heads, the ocean, the sky and the horizon. Here, in a place of sublime beauty, the ill who have accepted death can grasp the reality, the infinite — with nobility and humility. A ritual to end it all.
