PROJECT LOCATION: Newcastle, Australia
The project is the extension of the current regional art gallery and library as part of the city council’s intention to establish Newcastle as the cultural hub of the region. The library also serves as part of the infrastructure for the council to change the identity of Newcastle from a “Post-Industrial City” into a “Learning City”.
The project poses two interesting issues where both the buildings are iconic on top of having different architecture styles and functions. The intention for the project is to combine both these buildings to create a place where art and knowledge can coexist and interact with each other while maintaining the structural integrity. the project critiques the role of the art gallery and library as the regional identity of Newcastle to create a source of inspiration where a common object can be viewed in new perspectives.
