PROJECT LOCATION: 261-263 Oxford Street, Sydney
Space in Paddington is a highly sort after commodity with little going to waste. Even the shadows are inhabited by past residents displaced by the continuing gentrification of the area or simply through the nature of the society in which we live.
St. John’s is a disused church ground in the heart of Paddington. The scarred site is a metaphor for the state of the community surrounding it. This scheme is to incorporate an architectural program consisting of a Women’s Refuge; Counselling Rooms; Childcare Facility; Residential Apartments and Retail Outlets – this mix was chosen specifically to all both the metaphoric and physical voids that currently exist on the site with the aim being that people from all works of life can co-exist without prejudice.
