Newcastle Marine Research Centre by Rianda Barnes

CURRENT FINAL YEAR

LOCATION: Honeysuckle, Newcastle

Ocean acidification threatens every marine species across the planet. This project has at its heart a wish for the future of humanity and seeks to create a place that belongs to everyone and in which information about the impacts that humans have
on our marine environment can be exchanged.

Located on the edge of Newcastle harbour at Honeysuckle, at the entrance to Cottage Creek, the project takes its cue from the pre-industrial harbour edge, providing places for research, exhibits, lectures, classes and guided tours and creating new public open spaces along the foreshore.

The integrated facility combining marine research with tourism and public education would be an extremely valuable asset to the city of Newcastle.
