This project responds to Newcastle community concern regarding drug and alcohol treatment in Newcastle. The design philosophy of creating a residential rehabilitation center is to incorporate elements of architecture which would be comfortable for the residents. Creating an environment that is not foreign to the residents is a crucial element in making them feel comfortable. The use of natural light creates a sense of openness and also can develop the environment to encourage them in healing process. The integration of nature indoors helps the residents to relax within the space and enjoy their stay in this rehab center with a positive mind.
The aim for this project is to create a building that encourages the residents to become part of community with goal of rebuilding their social skills, such as responsibility and integration.
The site is located at Stockton where it creates senses of privacy and security as it rarely used by the public.
