The Pemulwuy Project – Affordable Housing for Aboriginal People

The Pemulwuy Project is an affordable housing scheme for Aboriginal families. It is a part of a real-life project. The project is aimed to provide 44 units of low cost housing for Aboriginal people only and to create a healthy neighbourhood.

The concept of the design is FLEXIBILITY in terms of usage, size, circulation, indoor/outdoor, quality and quantity. So that the building adapts the unique external oriented life-style of Aboriginal people instead of the other way around. Interaction with in the community is another key concept of the design.

The site is on a block of land commonly know as ‘The Block’. The site has rich Indigenous importance and a well-know centre for local Aboriginal communities. However, crime, drug and alcohol had transform the place into a ghetto in recent year. The project is thus, aimed to amend the situation here at The Block.
