The Yolluta Primary School by Michael Hong

The Yolluta project explores the architectural ramifications of an ideological shift in primary level education in the west. Learning from the Awabakal people’s approach to education in lesson’s formed from nature, this internalizing of the surrounding environment is here translated into western pedagogy – actively subverting and inhabiting the triumphant multi-story car park, exposing students to the multiplicities of knowledge embodied in indigenous education. In this way, patterns of landscape learning become central to the reinvestigation of the primary school typology and imbibe within the next generation a greater reverence for the landscape and its significance in the public psyche
